Why it’s so hard to say what we really mean

If you’ve ever felt like your voice didn’t matter — this one’s for you.

Hello MindFull Readers,

Last week, I walked into a room with six people — some I’d met before, and some I hadn’t.

There were no microphones. No slides. Just a some chairs, a long table — and a whole lot of unsaid stories. We called it Unscripted Conversations.

And this first session was themed: “The Power of Saying What You Mean.”

To be honest — I didn’t know what would unfold. But I knew in my heart we needed a space like this. A space where we don’t have to pretend. Where we can say the things we’ve spent years swallowing. Where we don’t have to be the strong one all the time.

And one by one, the stories came. Of silence. Of shame. Of survival.

Someone shared how growing up, being honest was dangerous. Another said they’ve learned to perform “being okay” even when they’re falling apart inside.

Someone else whispered: “I don’t think I’ve ever said these words out loud before.”

No fixing. No rushing to rescue. Just presence. And in that silence — Healing. It made me reflect on how many of us were raised to believe our voice didn’t matter. Or worse — that it could get us into trouble. So we became quiet. Or overly agreeable. Or incredibly good at bottling things up until they explode.

But healing… reparenting… is about choosing a different path. It’s learning to hear your own voice again. To speak from a place of truth — even if it trembles. If this resonates with you…

I just want to say: you’re not alone. Your voice is not too much. You matter. And if no one’s told you this recently — you’re allowed to say what you mean.

P.S. I’ll be hosting more of these intimate, unscripted sessions in the months ahead.

If you’d like to join the next one, just reply to this email with “I’m in.” No pressure, no performance — just presence. 🩵
