Have you ever felt unseen by your own family?

You don’t have to earn love by proving yourself, not even to family.

Hello MindFull Readers,

From the bottom of my heart, I hope you’ve never had to feel this way.

Like you’re never good enough.

Like no matter how much you grow, learn, or give, someone close to you still finds a way to dismiss it.

When my mother stayed with us for nineteen days, she often praised my helper’s cooking and asked where she had learnt it from. Each time, my helper would smile and say with such warmth, “Michelle taught me everything I know in the kitchen.”

I felt so touched by her appreciation but in the very next breath, my mother would change the subject. No acknowledgment. No recognition.

And just like that, an old wound was pressed. The ache of being invisible. Of not being seen for who we are or what we offer. Of being compared, criticised, or ignored by someone who was meant to uplift us.

Childhood experiences can deeply shape the way we feel, even decades later.

Growing up without positive affirmation from my parents left a mark. And moments like these remind me how deeply childhood experiences can shape the way we feel, even decades later.

If you’ve ever felt this too:

You’re not alone.

You don’t need to earn love through proving your worth.

This is your gentle reminder, from one heart to another, to start seeing yourself even when they don’t. Don’t let others determine your worth, not even your own family. 🩵
