Navigate through challenges with grace and practical tips. Join our journey against bullying and enjoy a special offer inside! 💪

Dear Cherished Readers,

In sharing a vulnerable moment, I must express the heaviness in my heart as my oldest daughter recently faced a disheartening incident at school. It was a poignant reminder of the challenges our children endure in their journey to self-discovery.

Her experience stirred echoes of my own tumultuous childhood in The Netherlands, where I grappled with bullying for being Asian. The scars from those painful moments still linger, a testament to the profound impact of unkindness. I understand the profound impact such experiences can have on a child's self-belief.

I recall how my pleas for understanding were met with dismissal and a reassurance that I would "grow over it." Today, I am still healing from those wounds, understanding the critical importance of supporting a child through such trials.

Reflecting on my daughter's recent encounter, I took a different approach—learned from the lack of support I faced. I allowed her the space to articulate her emotions, patiently acknowledging her pain. I engaged in a dialogue, asking specific questions to grasp the depth of her experience and offering guidance on navigating future challenges.

Key Steps Taken:

  1. Giving Space: I allowed her the time and space needed for her feelings to sink in, acknowledging and respecting her emotional state.

  2. In-depth Questions: I inquired about the specifics of the incident:

    • “What exactly were the unkind words they used on you?”

    • “How did that make you feel?”

    • “What can I do right now to make you feel better?”

    • “What could you do next time to help you resolve the unpleasant situation on the spot?”

  3. Coaching for the Future: Finally, I provided guidance on managing her own behavior and emotions if faced with a similar situation in the future.

This brings me to a critical point: it's imperative to be present for our children, recognizing that their struggles matter greatly, whether voiced or silenced.

For those finding it challenging to understand the inner voice of their child or themselves, I am excited to offer a limited-time, limited-slots personality color analysis.
