Comparison doesn’t motivate our kids instead it wounds them.

Comparison vs Curiosity: Which Do You Choose?

To my fellow travellers breaking cycles,

Comparison sneaks in so quietly.

“Your cousin studies harder, he’s so clever.”

“Look at how your brother behaves.”

I heard these words often as a child. Maybe they were meant to motivate me, but what I actually heard was: “Who I am isn’t enough for you.”

That message settled deep inside, shaping the way I saw myself.

But here’s the truth: comparison doesn’t inspire growth, it chips away at self-worth. And I don’t want to pass that on to my children.

So here’s a gentle reframe I practise: swap comparison for curiosity.

🩵 “What do you think will help you here?”

🩵 “How do you feel about the way you handled that?”

One closes the door and the other opens it to a world of possibilities.

Curiosity opens the door to growth, while comparison quietly closes it.

For me, the choice is clear. I’ll be choosing curiosity for my children, every single time.
