6 Simple Ways to Reparent Yourself Starting Today
Reparenting yourself isn’t just about healing—it’s about evolving and creating a brighter, more loving present. These six tips will guide you toward self-love and transformation.

Reparenting isn’t just about healing the child you once were; it’s about nurturing the adult you’ve become. As we navigate our journeys of self-discovery, there’s so much we can do to provide the love, care, and understanding we may have missed in our formative years.
Here are six self-help tips to guide you on this transformative journey:
1. Recognise unmet childhood needs
Have you ever felt a wave of emotions that didn’t quite make sense? Sometimes, those feelings come from unfulfilled needs in your childhood. Perhaps you lacked affirmations, physical affection, or other vital elements of emotional support. Start by identifying those gaps—they may be the key to understanding what you need most now.
2. Coach your inner voice
It’s tempting to wish others—especially our parents—could change. But the truth is, we have the power to rewrite the narrative ourselves. Cultivate a kind, encouraging inner voice that speaks to you the way you wish your parents did. Cheer yourself on through challenges with patience and kindness, as if you were your own biggest fan.
3. Celebrate your wins, big or small
Self-praise isn’t arrogance—it’s an act of self-love. Take a moment to acknowledge your efforts and progress, even in the tiniest victories. Say it out loud: “Wow, I really nailed that!” Trust me, it feels liberating to celebrate yourself.
4. Rediscover your childhood joy
When was the last time you let yourself be truly silly? Draw, play catch, build a fort—do whatever sparks that giddy sense of wonder. My kids have taught me to embrace this wholeheartedly. Hide and seek still makes me giggle, and there’s something magical about building blanket forts that reignites my imagination. Give yourself permission to play; it’s a gift for both you and your children.
5. Indulge in comfort items
A fuzzy blanket. A warm cup of tea. A set of pyjamas so soft you feel cocooned. These little things might seem trivial, but they can be profoundly grounding. For me, a fuzzy blanket tops the list (and if I lived somewhere colder, fuzzy slippers would be a close second). Don’t feel shy about embracing what comforts you—it’s your way of soothing your senses.
6. Write or record a message to your younger self
This might feel awkward at first, but it’s incredibly illuminating. Write a letter or record a video offering your younger self the support and reassurance they needed. It’s not just a way to reflect on how far you’ve come—it’s a step towards giving yourself the care you deserved back then.
For me, number three has always been the hardest. I’ve often struggled to feel “good enough” to celebrate my achievements. But with time and practice, I’m learning to embrace self-appreciation—and it feels amazing.
