4 Toxic Things Parents Say To Their Children.

The leading cause of why we have insecurities and can create future insecurities in our children.

Hello MindFull Readers,

Have you ever been on the receiving end of those hurtful comments from your parents when you were a child? Or maybe you caught yourself saying something similar to your own kids? Words have power, and sometimes they cut deeper than we realize.

Let's break down four toxic things parents say and the lasting impact they can have:

Toxic Level: Guilt Tripping

"Everything I did was for YOU! I sacrificed my life for you, so ungrateful!"

Consequence: This kind of guilt-tripping can leave a lasting mark on a child's self-worth. They might feel constantly indebted to their parent, carrying a heavy burden of guilt.

Toxic Level: Constant Comparison

"Why can't you be more like your sister? She's so much better than you!"

Consequence: Constantly comparing a child to others breeds jealousy and deep-seated inadequacy. It plants the seed of "never good enough" that can follow them into adulthood.

Toxic Level: Unhealthy Dependency

"You're going to regret it once I'm dead."

Consequence: Remember our discussion on co-parenting with a narcissist in one of my previous newsletters? This statement screams of unhealthy dependency, leaving children feeling like they can't survive without the approval of others.

Toxic Level: Body Shaming

"You're such a fatty, you should consider slimming down!"

Consequence: Body shaming at a young age can lead to serious body image issues and even eating disorders later in life. It's a harmful cycle that we need to break.

Let's be mindful of the words we use on ourselves and with our children. Our words greatly shape their self-perception and their future relationships. Together, let's create a healthier environment for our kids and ourselves to thrive in because you are worth it and so are our children.
